Detailed – 14 Days Rwanda Wildlife Safari
Day 1: Kigali International Airport – Arrival
Arrive at Kigali airport, and our guide /driver will be ready to transfer you to your booked hotel where you will be briefed by the company representative about your 14 days Rwanda wildlife safari.
Day2: Kigali City Tour
After breakfast, you will have a full day doing a city tour in Kigali. Visit most historical eye-catching sites like the memorial genocide center, museum of national history as you proceed for lunch. After lunch, you will be transferred to Bugesera for a visit to the reconciliation village, Nyamata, and Ntarama genocide churches.
Transfer back to lodge for Dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Transfer from Kigali to Butare
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Butare for a visit to the National Museum where you see a lot of exciting historical things with an introduction to Rwanda’s Kingdoms. The drive takes approximately 4 hours.
Day 4: Nature Walk – Nyungwe National Park
After breakfast, we will drive from Butare to Nyungwe – home to 13 primate species including chimpanzees and other attractive monkeys to see; Angolan Black Colobus, Mona Monkey, Blue Monkey, L’Hoest Monkey, and Owl Faced Monkey where we will do an evening nature walk or bird watching along the forest edges and meeting up with the local community around. The drive takes up to 3 hours. Relax after the nature walk, have dinner, and rest.
Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking – Nyungwe Forests
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the park offices for briefing and clearance to trek chimpanzees. Trekking normally begins at 8:00 am and lasts for 2-6hours. Enjoy your day with over 500 individual of chimpanzees in the park. The Rwanda Chimpanzee trekking Permit for Nyungwe costs USD 90.
Day 6: Canopy walk/Waterfall trail/Bird watching – Nyungwe Forest
After breakfast, you will walk back to the park for bird watching with over 280 species and 100 species of butteries. After lunch makes the canopy walk above the steep and deep valley stretching across the massive forest.
Day 7: Transfer from Nyungwe to Lake Kivu.
After having breakfast, drive to Gisenyi the largest port on the Rwandan shore of Lake Kivu where you have lunch, relax and prepare for the next day. The journey takes approximately 6 hours.
Day 8: Lake Kivu
After breakfast, you will take a boat ride on the lake where you will sight different activities like fishing, and windsurfing among others. After lunch, you will have a visit to the local market as you proceed to Volcanoes Park where you will spend a night. The journey will take 2- 3 Hours.
Day 9: Gorilla Trekking – Volcanoes National Park
Volcanoes national park is situated in the northwestern part of Rwanda covering 160kilometers squared. The park consists of different vegetation that harbors various species of animals, birds, and mammals.
Montane rain forests and the bamboo majorly harbor Mountain Gorillas and the Golden Monkey. The park comprises five of the eight volcanoes in the Virunga namely Muhabura, Karisimbi, Gahinga, Bisoke, and Sabyinyo. It borders Virunga National Park in DRC and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda. The park is also the base of the primatologist Dian Fossey. You will be transferred to the Park offices after an early breakfast for a briefing about the Gorillas. Proceed to the park with guides, rangers, and porters and spend your day with the Gorillas.
Day 10: Golden Monkey Trekking – Volcanoes National Park
After an early breakfast, the guide will transfer you to the park headquarters for clearance and briefing about golden monkey tracking in the park. Golden monkeys are so beautiful to track and their trekking is much simpler than Gorillas. The beautiful mixture of the gold and orange color gives you an eye-catching on these cute apes. Enjoy the rest of your day with the Golden Monkeys and after this activity, you can also take a visit to Diane Fossey’s grave.
Day 11: Transfer from Volcanoes Park to Akagera National Park
After breakfast, you will drive to the Akagera National Park one of the 3 parks with the most sighting wildlife. All the big animals are in this park plus a number of many more mammals that include; elephants, leopards, giraffes, buffalo, zebras, lions, hyenas, roan antelopes, and duiker, topis, oribis, waterbuck, bushbuck, klipspringer, impala, and the cape eland.
Common primates in the park include the Vervet monkeys, baboons, blue monkeys, and bushbabies that are more seen during the night game drives.
Akagera National Park offers a lot of activities which include day and night game drives, bird watching – so suitable for bird lovers, boat safari on Lake Ihema in the park, sport fishing, and nature walks among others. The drive will take approximately 7 hours.
Day 12: Game Drive – Akagera National Park
After breakfast in the morning, you will be transferred to the park headquarters for a briefing. Proceed with the morning game drive in the park having all the chance to view lions, elephants, buffalos, zebras, and giraffes among other animals.
In the afternoon after having lunch, do an evening game drive in the Park then drive back to the lodge for dinner and rest.
Day 13: Game Drive and Boat Ride – Akagera National Park
Wake up with an early breakfast, catch another morning game drive for sighting wildlife like elephants, leopards, giraffes, buffalo, zebras, lions, hyenas, roan antelopes, and duiker, topis, oribis, waterbuck, bushbuck, klipspringer, impala, and the cape eland. After lunch, do an evening boat ride on Lake Ihema where you will see lots of birds including the shoebill. Mammals like crocodiles, hippos, etc.
Day 14: Transfer back to Kigali
After a relaxed breakfast, you will be transferred back to Kigali for your flight back home. The journey will take approximately 3 hours. That marks the end of the 14days Rwanda Wildlife Safari
