4 Days Gorilla Trekking in Uganda & Rwanda

Double gorilla trekking Uganda & Rwanda is an unforgettable 4-day adventure to trek mountain gorillas in both Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park. This unique experience allows you to compare and contrast two distinct gorilla families, observing their group dynamics and behaviors.

Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda and Uganda (Trekking Gorillas Twice) is designed for anyone who wish to do gorilla trekking in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park and Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Different gorilla groups are distinct from one another. Some have more people, females, and silverbacks than others. In one group, you might find a woman with twins, and in another, just juveniles. Gorillas primarily graze in the bamboo forest in Rwanda’s highland habitat. In contrast, the majority of Bwindi National Park is made up of tropical rainforest. Let’s take a closer look at each of the two national parks, beginning with Bwindi.

Day by day Itinerary: Gorilla Trekking in Uganda and Rwanda

Day 1: Departure from Kigali, then transportation to Bwindi National Park

After picking you up from your hotel or the airport in Kigali, our guide will give you a half-day tour of the city. The tour includes stops at the primary city market, the genocide memorial centre, the ancient presidential palace, and a souvenir shop. After the city tour, you will travel for four hours to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which consists of verdant rolling hills and plantations, via Rwanda’s stunning countryside. You will enter Uganda after clearing immigration, and then you will arrive at your lodge in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi, Uganda, and (Cultural Tour) Visit the Batwa Pygmies

After eating breakfast early in the morning, head to the park headquarters for a briefing. The head guide gives a training on how to behave around gorillas and what to bring when gorilla tracking at 7:00 a.m. A gorilla group will be assigned to you, and you will have the choice to hire porters. Your general level of fitness determines the dispersal of gorilla groups. Further into the woods, certain gorilla populations require longer hiking distances, which leads to more issues. Once you’ve located your gorilla troop, you should head into the bush to look for the primates. Bring a good camera so you may take pictures of the group and yourself.

After spending an hour with the mountain gorillas, head back to the starting point to meet our guide, who will take you back to the resort for lunch and rest. Later in the afternoon, you will be taken to the Batwa pygmy village, which is near the park. The Batwa were the original inhabitants of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, but they were forced to leave the park to make room for gorilla conservation efforts, which benefited gorillas and other park animals but not the Batwa. Having lived as hunters and gatherers for thousands of years, keeping a safe distance from tribal groups outside the woodlands, the Batwa now have to deal with them and respect their traditions.

The Batwa have been marginalized and most of them are impoverished because they are unable to compete with the more aggressive tribes. While staying with the Batwa, you will be entertained by traditional dance groups and learn a lot about their culture.

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda, and Visit the Gorilla Guardians Village

You should get up at your own pace and enjoy breakfast as we wait for our driver following your initial encounter with the primates yesterday. After leaving, head back to Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park for another gorilla trek. You will eat lunch when you get to the resort.

While you wait for the driver to take you to the Gorilla Guardians Village after lunch, you can have a nap at the lodge. The Centre, once the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village, started off as a place where repentant poachers sold tourists trinkets. The facility has been refurbished by the government, making it one of East Africa’s leading cultural institutions. During the day, you will either watch traditional dance performances or pose for photos wearing traditional robes.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda, and Departure

Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda (Unforgettable)

Get up early and head to Volcanoes National Park for a gorilla trekking briefing at 7:00 a.m. Similar to Bwindi, the briefing covers topics including mountain gorillas, park history, gorilla groups, what to pack, and what to expect. Following the briefing, you will be led into the forest by the Park Rangers/Guides. You can anticipate strolling through a thick bamboo forest that is filled with interesting creatures. You will be rewarded with an hour of gorilla watching following a little hike. Even if one of the gorillas comes up to you, stay calm and do as your guide says.

Following an hour of gorilla viewing, you will have lunch back at the starting location. When you are ready to leave, the car will drop you off at your hotel or the Kigali airport.
