5 Days Rwanda Primate Safari Adventure
Rwanda Primate Safari. Tracking and a canopy walk in Nyungwe are included in the exciting 5-day trip to Rwanda. Activities like gorilla trekking, golden monkey trekking, canopy walks, and chimpanzee tracking are all part of the 5-day Rwanda safari.
Activities like chimpanzee tracking, canopy walks, gorilla trekking, and golden monkey trekking in the two national parks are all part of the 5-day Rwanda Primate Safari. The tour package can be taken as a group, a couple, or an individual and is offered throughout the year. About 400 chimpanzees and more than 13 primate species can be found in Nyungwe Forest. About 98.7% of human DNA is shared by chimpanzees, and they exhibit a number of human-like behaviours that are fascinating to see for no more than an hour. Their loud hoots, thundering striking of tree barks and buttresses, and deafening cries make these chimpanzees easy to track and habituated.
The Nyungwe Forest National Park’s canopy walk is a suspension bridge that is 70 meters above the forest floor and spans 160 meters through the verdant montane rainforest. This is a unique activity that provides a breathtaking perspective of the ancient forest’s treetops, as well as the birds and other creatures that inhabit there. The only park in the nation with mountain gorillas, Volcanoes National Park, offers visitors a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend up to an hour with these gentle giants. Volcanoes National Park is part of the Virunga mountain, which is home to rare golden monkeys. Before your journey is up, you will trek these lovely primates in the park.

Detailed itinerary of the 5 Days in Rwanda
Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Nyungwe Forest National Park.
When you arrive at Kigali International Airport or in Kigali city on your first day of your five-day trip to Rwanda, an Africa Reveal Safaris’ guide will take you to Nyungwe Forest National Park. From Kigali International Airport, it takes approximately 4 hours and 36 minutes to drive to the park using the quickest route. You get to your hotel or lodge in the evening, unwind, eat dinner, and spend the night there.
Meal Plan: Dinner
Accommodation Options: Luxury: Nyungwe Forest Lodge / One & Only Nyungwe Forest House, Mid-range: Nyungwe Top View Hill Hotel, Budget: Gisakura Guest House
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk in Nyungwe Forest National Park.
After breakfast in the morning, you will be driven to the park headquarters to begin your chimpanzee trekking adventure. You continue to wander until you come to the location of the chimps’ last night’s sleep. The speed at which chimpanzees leap and play impacts how many pictures you capture and how much time you spend looking at them. You can watch them making noise as they bounce from tree to tree at fast speeds. Following the hike, you head back to the starting location and meet the driver-guide for a ride to the hotel for rest and lunch. You spend roughly two hours on a canopy walk in Nyungwe Forest in the evening.
You later go back to the hotel to unwind and eat dinner.
You spend your night at the previous nights’ accommodation.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Diner
Day 3: Transfer from Nyungwe Forest National Park to Volcanoes National Park.
After enjoying a leisurely breakfast this morning, you will travel to Volcanoes National Park. Depending on the route, the drive between the two parks takes between five to six hours. You arrive in the afternoon and check into a hotel or lodge that you have reserved, where you unwind, have dinner and spend the night.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Diner
Accommodation: Luxury: Mountain Gorilla View Lodge, Mid-range: Gorilla Solution Lodge, Budget: Da Vinci Gorilla Lodge
Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park.
After breakfast, you are driven to the park headquarters by your driver-guide, who will take you up at the lodge. The park warden gives you a tutorial on the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking in Rwanda when you first arrive at the park headquarters in Kinigi. The park ranger guide will drop you off at the trekking starting site for the gorilla hike around 8:30 am. One gorilla family is assigned to each of the eight tourists who have a trekking permission from Rwanda, which costs USD 1500 per permit. With armed ranger guides, each of the eight people treks through the bamboo forest for two to six hours. But you only get to spend an hour (60 minutes) with the mountain gorillas.
The duration of the trek varies based on the movements of the gorilla groups, but it is easy to trek because the Rwandan population is known to go shorter distances. You walk back to the park headquarters after spending an hour with a gorilla family, where you meet the tour guide to be taken back to your accommodation.
Dinner and accommodation in the previous day’s hotel.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Diner
Day 5: Golden monkey trekking and transfer back to Kigali town or Kigali International Airport.
You will hike with golden monkeys in the morning in Volcanoes National Pak, where they live alongside mountain gorillas. Golden monkeys can be easily recognised by their colour and have distinctive personalities. For a pre-tour briefing, you need to arrive at the park headquarters as early as 7:00 am. There are two battalions of golden monkeys in Rwanda, the largest of which is located on Mount Sabinyo, the park’s most visited area with between 80 and 100 monkeys. Following your trek, you are transported to your accommodation for lunch before being driven to Kigali International Airport in time for your flight out.
