1. WORK TOGETHER WOMEN SKILLING AND ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT PROJECT

Project Overview

The Work Together Women Skilling and Economic Empowerment Project is a comprehensive initiative launched in 2018, aimed at enhancing the economic sustainability of women in Mbarara, Uganda. The project seeks to empower women through sustainable skills development, environmental conservation, and community development. Over the years, the project has expanded its scope to include various income-generating activities, including handcraft production, briquettes making, and cosmetics production.

PROJECT GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

The primary goal of the Work Together Women Skilling and Economic Empowerment Project is to economically empower women in Uganda through sustainable skills development. The project aims to achieve the following specific objectives:

1. Economic Empowerment: Enhance women’s economic sustainability through skilling and production, enabling them to improve their livelihoods and contribute to their families’ well-being.
2. Environmental Conservation: Conserve the environment through briquettes production from waste materials, reducing the reliance on firewood and promoting sustainable forest management.
3. Community Development: Foster community development and social cohesion through production and sales strategies, promoting collective economic growth and social progress.
4. Skills Development: Promote skills development and entrepreneurship among women, enabling them to access new economic opportunities and improve their socio-economic status.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

To achieve the project’s goals, the following specific objectives have been outlined:

1. Enhance Women’s Economic Sustainability: Provide training and support to women in sustainable skills development, enabling them to improve their economic livelihoods.
2. Conserve the Environment: Produce briquettes from waste materials, reducing the reliance on firewood and promoting sustainable forest management.
3. Promote Handcraft Production and Design Skills: Provide training and support to women in handcraft production and design, enabling them to access new economic opportunities.
4. Foster Community Development and Social Cohesion: Promote collective economic growth and social progress through production and sales strategies, fostering community development and social cohesion.

 

ACTIVITIES

To achieve the project’s objectives, the following activities have been outlined:

1. Briquettes Training and Production: Provide training and support to women in briquettes production from waste materials.
2. Market Research and Access: Conduct market research and provide support to women in accessing new markets for their products.
3. Business Skills Training and Entrepreneurship Development: Provide training and support to women in business skills and entrepreneurship development, enabling them to access new economic opportunities.
4. Liquid Soap, Shampoo, and Vaseline Production and Selling: Provide training and support to women in liquid soap, shampoo, and Vaseline production and selling.
5. Urban Farming Training: Provide training and support to women in urban farming, enabling them to improve their food security and access new economic opportunities.

SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

The project aims to promote skills development and entrepreneurship among women, enabling them to access new economic opportunities and improve their socio-economic status. The following skills development areas have been outlined:

1. Handicraft Production and Design: Provide training and support to women in handicraft production and design, enabling them to access new economic opportunities.
2. Business and Entrepreneurship: Provide training and support to women in business and entrepreneurship development, enabling them to access new economic opportunities.
3. Marketing and Sales: Provide training and support to women in marketing and sales, enabling them to access new markets for their products.
4. Financial Literacy and Management: Provide training and support to women in financial literacy and management, enabling them to manage their finances effectively and make informed economic decisions.
5. Modern Farming Skills: Provide training and support to women in modern farming skills, enabling them to improve their food security and access new economic opportunities.

PROJECT RESULTS

The Work Together Women Skilling and Economic Empowerment Project has achieved significant results since its inception. The following outcomes have been reported:

1. Increased Income and Economic Independence: Women have reported increased income and economic independence, enabling them to improve their livelihoods and contribute to their families’ well-being.
2. Enhanced Community Development and Environmental Conservation: The project has promoted community development and environmental conservation, fostering collective economic growth and social progress.
3. Expanded Market Access and Sales: Women have reported expanded market access and sales, enabling them to access new economic opportunities and improve their socio-economic status.
4. Increased Productivity: The project has promoted increased productivity among women, enabling them to improve their economic livelihoods and contribute to their families’ well-being.

1. Establishment of a Saving Scheme: The project established a saving scheme to improve the saving culture among women and enhance their economic development.
2. Provision of Skills Training: The project provided skills training in handcraft production, soap making, and book production, enabling women to access new economic opportunities.
3. Environmental Conservation through Briquettes Production: The project conserved the environment by producing briquettes from waste materials, replacing firewood and conserving trees and forests.
